My idea for the A to Z Challenge

A2Z-BADGE-000 [2014]

I’ve mentioned the A to Z blogging challenge a couple of times already, and linked it to in my sidebar. Since I also need to do an official post with links to the challenge pages, I thought I would share my A to Z plan. It’s tentative at the moment, and we all know how perilous long term plans for blogs can be, but I think this is easy and it will work. It will give me a lot of original content for April, and it might even turn into something useful.

I decided to participate as The Writing Catalog because I want to use this challenge to meet other people who blog about writing, and because this blog is the one that needs the most improvement. The idea of the challenge is to blog about a topic per day, six days per week, beginning with the first letter of the alphabet, and short posts are recommended.

I’ve decided to make my posts literacy-themed, so all my topics will be writing or reading concepts. If I can find enough art, I’ll illustrate each post with a meme. What you’ll see in April here, if I can pull this together, is a daily 150- to 300-word post about writing with some humorous art to go along with it. Day 1 might be “Audience,” Day 2 “Biography,” Day 3 “Characterization,” etc. I’ll collect them all on an index page as I go, and by the end I’ll have the beginning of a very nice resource.

What do you think about that? Sound like a good idea?

I’m thrilled about the challenge because so many bloggers are participating, and it won’t be difficult to have some interesting posts ready to go by the time it starts. Once I have my 26 topics nailed down, I’ll post them here. If  you’re interested in joining the challenge, you can find signup instructions and contact info here.

  1. I like your idea for the challenge! That will make for a great blog series. Good luck with it! I toyed with the idea of joining the challenge, but since I don’t really know what I’m up to by April, I find it a little daunting, so I’ll probably be lurker/commenter instead of participant this year.

  2. Sounds like a smashing idea. I’m still deciding whether PTM is going to do a themed month or just a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants month. There are advantages to both, I think.

    • Random could be good. If you’re not writing ahead, you’d also have the chance to blog about whatever people happen to be talking about that day ;-). I suggest that you start snagging art, as you see it, though.

  3. We have started toying with ideas for the A-to-Z challenge over on Comparative Geeks, which is a fun thought experiment in and of itself. I like your advice of starting to grab images now – that would definitely help! We’ll see if we pull that off… And I love the idea for yours, and the final product should be a really great resource!

    • Thanks! I hope so. And the snagging of the images will be good for the blog, because it will make my fan pages a little more busy and attractive. Best of luck with it, I’m hoping I can get this done.

    • Yes, I think so, that’s what makes it so appealing. I’m lucky – ends of semesters are when things lighten up for me. It’s the beginnings that make my life hectic.

  4. I think I have my theme for the month sorted in my head too – but I know the minute I write it down I’ll change my mind and have to backtrack – so I’m keeping it to myself for now. I have noted your advice re image gathering though. Good call.
