About that Coffee Linkup . . .

It was awesome.

I read every single post on the thread closely enough to leave an intelligent human comment and be ok sharing them. I will tell you, those are some marvelous bloggers. This weekend I flitted about the blogosphere reading posts. I didn’t approach them as a blogger or as a critic. This weekend I was a reader and a friend. It felt soooo good.

If you go to that thread, to or this very convenient Pinterest board I created to commemorate the event, you will be surprised by the savvy and the honesty of the bloggers who chose to join in.

So much human experience on that thread, it is overwhelming. There’s joy and loss, loneliness and confusion. Pain. Happiness. Anxiety. Most of the posts come with well-conceived art. Seriously. Take a look at these blogs. They’re personal and they are smart. If you are a reader, you’ll love them. I am honored to have all those links shared on a blog that’s barely two weeks old.

Here are  a few things I got out of the linkup:

  • Learned some things about how to bring a group of bloggers together.
  • Realized how much I miss reading blogs. Once the rearrangement of my online life is complete, I’m going to get back to the reading part of blogging. It’s important, and I’ve neglected it this summer.
  • Lots and lots to think about. There are so many people having so many different experiences in those posts, it helped me re-discover a little perspective.

All good things, I say.selfportrait1

I’m working myself up to one good post per week on this blog and trying to integrate it as quickly as I can into my crazy patchwork social media. I’m not there yet, but I am connecting this  blog to @sourcererblog and the Just Gene’O fanpage before I publish this one. It’s time to re-enter the wider social media world.

An early heads-up:

Diana and I have decided it’s not a good idea for me to do the coordinating thing at Part Time Monster. It’s also time move that stuff off Sourcerer. If you are an active collaborator on Feminist Fridays or any other projects, this is the blog you need to watch. If you enjoy the way I float ideas without asking for participation and then take the ones people like and mold them into crazy blog meet-ups, this is the the blog for you.

Of course I’ll send you tweets and chat with you elsewhere to keep you informed about what I’m doing. But if you’re following me on WordPress and taking your cues from the blogs alone, watch this one. This is where I speak to bloggers as a blogger now. I suppose that means the blogging and social media posting moves here.

I heart you all!

I heart you all!

  1. I have a suggestion for you Gene’O. I know that “If we were having coffee…” already runs as a regular feature elsewhere but perhaps you could expand the concept to run as a regular link-up here: “If we were (fill in the blank)…” For example, “If we were going abroad…”, “If we were out to lunch…”, “If we were at the theatre…”, “If we were having a yard sale…”, “If we were lost…” etc. The possibilities are endless and could be responded to in so many different ways.
Just a thought. If you don’t like it, I might try to do something along similar lines at Aspernauts. I have no idea what that would turn out to be though because I wouldn’t be happy just jumping on someone else’s bandwagon.
The coffee link-up was good. I read everyone’s posts too (unless I inadvertently missed any latecomers) and learned something new from every single one of them. More to the point – they were a pleasure to read. 🙂
