The 1,000 Voices Speaking for Compassion Facebook group passed 1,000 members sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning. There’s also a WordPress blog for it now, and I have confirmed that there will be a linkup for it on Feb. 20. Not bad at all for two weeks’ worth of bloggers chattering about this on the social media.1000speakLizzi

My friend Gretchen of Drifting Through My Open Mind published an awesome guest post at Hasty Words last week. She’s also joined The Sisterwives Speak. I’ve been following Gretchen and chatting with her almost since the day I started my blogs. She’s one of the most talented and generous bloggers I know, and I am pleased to see her finding ways to widen her audience.

Feminist Fridays return this week with a kickoff post by me at Part Time Monster and move to Victim to Charm the week after. You can find the spring schedule here. I’m glad to finally get these rolling again, because I have missed the discussions.

Featured Image -- 3218We had another awesome #WeekendCoffeeShare last week. I don’t know how many bloggers we’ll end up with this week, but the list included 25 blogs when I put this post together.

Even though the linky closes on Sunday, the links remain active and you can use the list to visit the posts at your convenience all week long. We’ll be back with another coffee share this weekend.

Last, but certainly not least, Suzie81 has graciously offered me a guest-hosting gig for #SundayBlogShare this Sunday. Those of you who have been reading for awhile may remember that I did this back in the fall. I loved it, it was an awesome experience, and I am looking forward to another awesome one next week.

Happy Blogging!

Be A Part Of A Movement: #1000Speak

Since Gretchen is the one who brought #1000Speak to my attention, I have been looking forward to her sounding off all week. And she has. Yes, words matter. (I’m shying away from calling it a movement in my own writing. Honestly, I am doing this because I just plain want 1000 bloggers to write about compassion. But I will let you in on a little secret. The things I did this week, and the order I did them in, are very much informed by my study of social movements and organization. Now raise your hand if you did not know, or forgot, that I am trained in political science 😉 )

“My place is of the sun and this place is of the dark. I do not feel the romance, I do not catch the spark…. and I will not be a pawn… for the prince of darkness, any longer.”

-Indigo Girls, Prince of Darkness

This week something pretty incredible remarkable amazing happened. One blogger wrote a beautiful piece in response to recent tragedies and atrocities happening in the world. Another blogger was posting about these same events on FaceBook. The two had a conversation that inspired this:

“How cool would it be if we could get 1000 bloggers on the same day to write posts about compassion, kindness, support, caring for others, non-judgement etc.? (Date to be decided.)
We could call it 1000 Voices For Compassion.
Who’s in?”

And thus began a movement. 1000 Voices for Compassion. A call for bloggers to join together on one day to speak out…
